Both. My hair is naturally a medium auburn (dark red + brunette) and I am also very fair.
But I also tan quickly and don’t burn. My son is already dark brown and didn’t burn at all, either (but he’s blonde now, too).
However, I do color it brighter red, darker brunette, and also blue-black sometimes.
But I usually just change the shade ever so slightly just 4 times per year when the seasons change.
I do brighter, lighter shades in Spring and Summer and then do darker brunettes and black in the Fall and Winter.
I look like shit as a blonde or anything other then a few highlights as far as lighter shades go.
Women look older with *unnaturally* lighter shades once you’re like 30 or 40.
I’m also given to the subtle bright blue, red, and even pink lowlights on occasion, too.
I like to change it up a lot.

Agreed. Women who are brunettes or even dark-blondes with super white bleached out ‘MM’ hair look almost haggardly. NOT flattering.

Also, most human hair (except for jet-black) has MANY shades in it (mine has shades of dishwater/gold/white/red) and when you color your hair all one ‘shade’ it can look really fakey.
